4.2.3 update fails with no error message

4.2.3 update is downloaded. When I run 4.2.2 it tells me that the update is ready to install. I follow the prompts and get to the screen that tells me the update has been installed and the checkbox whether I want to run Basecamp on exit or not.

When I hit the "Exit" button on that dialog it runs Basecamp as expected.

What is not expected is that it pops the dialog announcing that the 4.2.3 update is ready to be installed. WTF?? I just installed it.

So I ran it through the install again, got to the final screen that tells me it was installed and the checkbox to run Basecamp.

Hit "Exit", Basecamp runs ..... and there's that pesky dialog telling me that the 4.2.3 update is ready to install.

I've checked and Basecamp is still 4.2.2 so clearly the update is not taking for some reason. But the update wizard sure seems to think everything is working as it installs the update and tells me it's done.

No errors or any sort of indication that anything is wrong.

But when it's all done Basecamp is still 4.2.2 and it's still telling me that the 4.2.3 update is ready to install.

Any ideas? Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a desktop system with 4GB RAM and tons of free disk space. The only change I can think of is that I've replaced the boot drive with a 256GB SSD. But that shouldn't make any difference. I've never had any previous problems installing Garmin stuff on it (except for the occasional map installation issue that almost everyone eventually experiences at some point).
