Base Camp Route not following road

When I create a route in base camp but it doesn't follow the road. It just routes as straight lines. I never had issues with Mapsource but not real impressed with this software so far.
  • What map are you using and what activity profile have you selected? You need a routeable map like City Navigator and you need to set a profile other than Direct, e.g. Driving or Motorcycling.
  • And note that Mapsource requires the same, it's just you probably set it up a while back and you've forgotten :)
  • This is a frustrating routing issue for me. Using BaseCamp Topo maps to create an off road route has an issue. Backtracking the route to get to the next waypoint when BaseCamp can’t “see” a road or trail between two waypoints in every profile except DIRECT.

Here’s my example….creating the route on the Topo map using the ATV profile. BaseCamp follows the waypoints I create on the roads or trails, BUT only those roads or trails that BaseCamp can “see.” Along my route, I create waypoint “22” at a particular spot where the road/trail ends at a water feature (stream, river, etc.) On the other side of the water feature I create waypoint “23” where there is another road/trail. I know that I can cross the water feature and get to the known road (trail) on the other side. BaseCamp does not know this, so, it routes me backwards from “22” along known roads/trails until it finally finds a way to get to “23”, the next waypoint. Sometimes that back track will add many, many miles, sometimes along paved roads that I shouldn’t be on.

If I use the DIRECT profile, the route will cross the water feature and continue on.

My suggestion is that when BaseCamp, using any profile, comes to a spot on the route where it cannot find a "known" way between two waypoints, that it automatically switch to the DIRECT profile to connect those two points rather than backtracking.
  • Well it can't do that as it wouldn't know whether you wanted that to happen or not.

You can do it though. Open the route properties box and right click the point where you want it to 'direct route'. Select Edit via point, then change the activity at the bottom to Direct.
  • Thank you SUSSAMB, I will gladly give that a try.
