Are you able to attach the route as a gpx file so we can have a look at it? While it's not unusual to have minor discrepancies yours is much more than I would expect.
This attaches to the routable trail. It attaches to the trail correctly on both basecamp and the etrex, however, the distance on the etrex is almost if not double.
