hide waypoints on Nuvi 2797LMT after uploading routes from Basecamp

Hi there, I'm totally new to GPS, s the question might be to stupid.
I have uploaded a route to Nuvi 2797LMT using Basecamp. Everything looks good and I can see the route in Nuvi 2797LMT.
The only problem I have is that there are too many waypoints, and each of them is represented with a flag. Some of the symbols are blocking my view so that my route is not clearly seen.
Is there any option on Nuvi 2797LMT so that I can hide the waypoints on route?
  • I don't know of a way to hide the waypoints, perhaps you should use steering points instead.

From experience using my old 2610, when I got my 3597, I tended use many waypoints to steer routes where I wanted, as that was the only choice on the older GPS.

But with the 3597 and hopefully your 2797 supports same, using "steering points" instead of waypoints is the better, less clutter way to do it... I now only use waypoints in a route for occasional multiple destination stop points which are far fewer, and steering ports to direct the route along the blue highways I prefer to travel.
  • How are you creating the 'route' in Basecamp? What makes me ask is that you say you can see the 'route' on your 2797. That model uses 'trips' so you wouldn't normally see the 'route', just the first 'trip'.

Have you created the route/trip by using the Direct activity routing in Basecamp? This is the only way I can imagine that would cause so many waypoints that they'd block your view of the route?

If it's like other recent Nuvi's, this should be very simple. Go to the Map Layers menu - you should be able to access it by pressing the three-bar menu icon on the map screen. Disable "places along the road" and they should disappear.

True if it's waypoints, not a part of a selected route.. but if it's the waypoints in the route used to vector the route along certain roads, the rather large "flags" will be displayed for each waypoint in the route (even with "places along the road" turned off). That can create a lot of clutter, depending on the zoom level being used... (This comment applying to how the 3597 does it.. other Nuvis may be different)

Once I learned more about shaping points with my new 3597, I use shaping points (which display only a suitable sized small dot in the route) exclusively to do what they were intended for.. to shape the route to my preference..

As a side comment, when is Garmin going to update the Nuvi code to display the same icons selected in Basecamp, on the GPS itself, instead of the flags? and, the option to have the name of the waypoint also displayed as with the older GPS units....

I see - thanks. Honestly, I've never tried sending any routes from Basecamp to my Nuvi 3550 or Dezl 760. I rarely use routes at all, I'm impulsive and just get in the car and drive. :)

But these inconsistencies between Basecamp and the devices are very perplexing. And the new Nuvis don't show icons or labels for your waypoints at all now, just the generic blue flags. Even worse, they are mixed in with seemingly random POI's. So maybe this is Garmin's solution - if the Nuvi doesn't show the icon there's no need to make it agree with Basecamp.
