display imported waypoints by Basecamp in Garmin Nuvi 2797

I just got my first Garmin GPS Nuvi 2797. Have done a lot of search on internet and found the software Basecamp. Started using it by importing a list of waypoints in Excel csv format into Basecamp.

With Nuvi 2797 connected to my PC, I can see the waypoints in Basecamp directory and Nuvi 2797 internal storage as well.

However, when I disconnect Nuvi 2797 from PC, I cannot see the imported waypoints on Nuvi 2797.

Have a look in the Internal Storage directory and found the current.gpx file. Made a copy and opened it in Google Earth. I can see all the imported waypoints. This means that the waypoints have been successfully imported and stored in the GPS.

But, how can I display them on 2797?
  • You won't 'see them' on the screen necessarily, if that's what you're expecting. Garmin keep changing how favourites are displayed, so I'm not clear exactly how they display on your model, but you may need to zoom way in to see them. If they are in your list of saved places then they have been imported.

Haven't used a 2797, but AFAIK Garmin changed the way favorites (waypoints) are handled in 2012 on the Nuvi. I have a 3550 and also a Dezl 760. They do not display favorites at all. You can enable the "places along the road" layer and it will display blue "signposts" with a heart in them for favorites, but they are mixed in with a bunch of seeminly random POI's for businesses. Apparently these are from companies that have paid Garmin (or Navteq) for special treatment.

But there are no names for your favorites and only the same generic icon for all of them. It's really a mess so I leave it disabled. I like some of the new features that were introduced in 2012, but this one is a big step backwards.
