Hi all,
My first visit to the forum, hope it is a successful one! I have a bit of a longwinded question I'm afraid...
I have recently acquired my first GPS unit (an eTrex 30) for cycling, having always resisted the idea quite strongly. As I have always relied on paper maps and cue cards, I used to use 3rd party websites like MapMyRide, BikeRouteToaster and so on for speeding up the plotting process, but then type up or write out the instructions.
The reason I have the eTrex is to use as a navigation aid on a bike tour I'm tackling in Venezuela this November. To that end, I've downloaded the routeable GPS maps from Venrut and they have installed into Basecamp and my eTrex without a hitch. The Venrut map corresponds very pleasingly with my Reise paper map, and so I am pretty happy that they will be reasonably reliable, or at least they will tell me the same wrong things!
The rub is this: My route was created using MapMyRide, which uses the Google Maps API (I think), and which does not correspond very well to my paper map or my Venrut map. So I would like to load the MapMyRide route into Basecamp, alter it so it is optimised on the Venrut map (better roads and so on) and then copy it to the GPS unit. I've managed to get the GPX file off MapMyRide and into Basecamp as a track (I think), but now I'm stuck; I can't seem to alter it very easily. Is this possible to do?
Thanks everyone
