Basecamp and device not matching up

Sorry if I have asked a question that has been answered. I have searched but not found an answer.

Here is my issue.

I am using basecamp with US Topo 2008. I have several waypoints and a trail mapped out of a hike that I will be doing in several weeks. On basebamp viewing thru google earth, it is mapped out perfectly. But when I send the waypoints and trail to my device (Rino 530hcx) it is not matching up.

For example, my trail starts at "trailhead" and ends at "Careys Castle". On my device the trail only shows about half of the trail yet the waypoints are in the correct spot. My device has Topo US 100k.

I have seen people say that the two maps must be the same but why would my waypoints match up but not the trail. If this is the case, how do I install the Topo 100k to basecamp or topo 2008 to the device. It seems like each are designed to be used with only one, either BC or the handheld

Any help would be absolutely greatly appreciated. This is a remote part of the desert and I really dont feel like getting lost.

Not completely clear on what you're doing, sorry. Neither US topo 100k nor US topo 2008 are routable maps. In other words, they don't contain the data that is needed to provide turn by turn directions. The thing about using the same maps in Basecamp and and device applies to routable maps, like City Navigator and would not be relevant here.

However, obviously, if the maps have roads or features that don't match then that will be noticeable. You can connect your Rino to your computer and Basecamp will read the map. You can then choose it to be displayed on your computer whenever the Rino is connected. That will give you the same map to look at on the computer.

Alternately, you could send a section of US Topo 2008 to your Rino, enable it and disable the built-in topo map. This would also provide the same maps on both the computer and GPS.

No I dont need routable maps. What Im having an issue with is my trail in basecamp is perfect. It starts at the trail head and follows all the way to the destination. But when I send it to my device, the trail ends about half way to the destination. Look at the pictures, you will see that on basecamp; both normal and overlayed in Google Earth, the trail is complete, but on the device it is not. Just wondering if Im doing something wrong or if there is a option somewhere that I need to fix

How many points does the track have?
I'm not sure about that Rino, but I think it is limited to 500 points in a track. If you send a longer one, it will get truncated.

You can use the "Filter" option in BaseCamp to reduce the number of points. Or split it into several separate tracks, each with less than 500 points.

Sorry... My post was a specific reply to what I quoted from your original question about whether the maps need to be the same on the device and Basecamp.

I think you are talking about a TRACK and not a TRAIL though. A "trail" would be part of the map data and a "track" is user data. I think Craig probably has the right idea, the track is being shortened for some reason when you send it to the GPS.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I was definitely talking about a track. Im new to using basecamp and transferring stuff to my handheld. I will check the points. and see if thats the issue.
