With each new firmware of my Etrex 30, it seems that the gap between the total ascent and descent displayed by the device and those displayed by Basecamp is widening!
This occurs while the elevation recorded in the gpx are the same, and Basecamp calculation is based on the gpx from the device! So why can't the device calculate the same total ascent from this same data!?
For example, from a 29 km hike in the woods around Paris :
* Etrex 30 : ascent +180, descent -279
* Basecamp with elevations from gpx (from device) : ascent +466, descent -527
* Basecamp with elevations from map (topo France) : ascent +425, descent -489 (if last trackpoint line deselected, as explained in previous post about elevation bug)
I belong to the French Alpine Club, and these differences make Garmin GPS users look ridiculous when they try to convince other members that they should use GPS devices!
