Behavior of Route Properties Window

I've got a route I created from a number of way points. As the route is zig-zagging around, I need to change the order of the points.
Here are some observations during this editing process.

In route properties, if I click (select) on a point, the map zooms in to that point. Is there a way to disable this automatic map zooming? In this case (and others), I'd like to keep the map zoomed out so I can see the entire route (or some portion that I have zoomed to) as I move points up and down in the route.

So, the map has now zoomed in to the way point and I need to restore the map to where it was. If I left-click on the map, the Route Properties window closes instead becoming inactive (or moving behind). If I right-click on the map, the Route Properties stays open but now, I've got the context menu open on the map.

When adding points, is there a way to select more than one point at a time (CTRL>click, ALT>click) to bring into the route?

Still waiting patiently for a way to disable the info pop-up balloons!

Thanks, John
  • I’m running version 4.2.2. Uncheck the Center Map box in the lower left corner of the Route Properties window will prevent zooming and re-centering when a point is selected.

The safest way to select the map window is to use the view tool bar and reselect your current view. I see the opposite behavior you described. Right click closed the Route Properties window and brought up a context menu. If you have the Hand/Pan tool selected, the Route Properties dialog should stay open. I suspect it will stay open with the editing tools as well, but you may do some inadvertent editing when you click on the map pane. The other tools may be hit or miss depending on what they do (i.e. whether or not the selected tool starts an operation unrelated to what you are currently doing).

Once you create a route, you can drag and drop points into the route. For example, place all of your waypoints in a list. Create a route using the first two waypoints. Select the remaining waypoints, drag and drop into the created route.
  • Ahhh....Got it!
Thanks for pointing out "Center Map" check box...that seems to have "fixed" it. Additionally, when I click and drag the map (hand tool selected), the route window stays open. If I just left click, the route properties closes.
    Thanks again!
