Hi all, I am new to the world of Garmin. Previously I was using TomTom and Google Maps/Tyre. Having read some of the posts about Basecamp I am playing around trying to figure it out. I have saved a route (from Tyre) as a GPX file and opened it in BaseCamp. Initially it showed straight lines between the 'waypoints'. I clicked on the route with the pencil+ cursor and dragged the route to a road. I then did something, I don't know what, and the route conformed to the roads the whole way. Please can someone tell me how I did that??

Probably hit the recalculate button or selected a profile other than 'Direct'.

OK, I think I figured that out. Now, how, please, do I move a route, so, for example, I can see a road it rather followed, and I want to alter the route so it includes that road?

Use the insert tool, looks like a pencil. Hover it between two points on the route until you see a thick black line. Click and then drag the line that appears to where you want to insert a point and click.

well that is just not working, when I hover no black line appears. Does it depend on what type of route/track or whatever? And (this I am very unhappy about) the mapping does not seem to go down to the smallest lanes - what do I do to fix that please?

What map are you using? Basecamp only comes with a basic map but it will read the map off your GPS when it's connected to your PC.

Hi, if I click the maps button on the tool bar I can see City Navigator Europe NTU 2014.2 ticked. Will I see more detail with the unit connected or is that as good as it gets?

U can change the map detail, but u need to add it to your menu bar

In the menu bar go to View > Toolbars > Map Detail

Try moving the mouse pointer around, it can sometimes be tricky to get the thick black line to appear. It should appear when the insert tool is in line with the two points between which you want to place the via point. See this video:

Also make sure that under the "View" menu, "Basic Map Only" is NOT checked.
