Dear all. I recently got a new laptop windows 8. Finding that hard enough. Is there a need for Basecamp? What procedure should I have done to install Garmin to my laptop? I installed mapsource linked up zumo 660 garmin express and basecamp. i see the items but cannot get it to work properly. Any advice?
Which "items" are you able to see, but not make work?
Mapsource is going away. Basecamp is a much better program, but it has a learning curve that is a bit steep.
One thing I have come to really like is that it is more of a "database" application. Thus everything is automatically saved, can be easily exported as .gpx files, and you can cut and paste out of Mapsource.
Spend some time tinkering and it will come around!!
Sure, development was discontinued several years ago. However, I don't think it will "go away". That would leave all owners of devices with serial interfaces out in the cold (Basecamp is not compatible with them). There are a LOT of those old devices out there. ;)
