Is anyone having problems with Mapinstall? i can't use mapinstall anymore for my GPSMAP 62s and Nuvi - when i try to install OSM maps over to the units an error comes up. My previous Mapinstall/Basecamp usage was perfect but for some reason now mapinstall just crashes - i'm using MAPinstall 4.0.3. latest basecamp and all the latest firmware for the units.
So how are you installing the maps in BaseCamp? Are you using MapSetToolKit? Maybe that is causing problems with MapInstall.
Does MapInstall work if you don't use your modified TYP file?
no - mapinstall still wont work with the original (untouched) OSM files....i'm going to try out my PC to see if i'll have the same problem with mapinstall. i'll do this over the next couple of nights - have been quite busy with work. Thanks for staying with me. My instinct tells me there's something not right with my notebook's usb - so this experiment will test that hypothesis.....
Try JaVaWa GMTK to replace the TYP file in the computer installed map, or TYPchanger to replace it in a standalone file.
OMG - it's late now and i'm experimenting with a sample .img map file and it looks like it'll work with the Typechanger. my initial try didn't work as i had the .TYP file in capital - then i made it a .typ and TYPCHANGER accepted it....wooohooo !!! i'll try with a fresh OSM download and see if this works - thankyou very very much. Thank-god for the forums.!!!!!
OK - mapinstall works perfectly on my desktop PC so the fault lies with my notebook. Basecamp now even reports a fail with OSM map installation with the notebook when the OSM maps succcessfully installed on my desktop PC - it's weird - I've never seen such a phenomenon in the many years mucking around the computer - the notebook slowly going 'bad'. I'm gonna format the notebook and hope it's a software issue/OS issue.
EDIT - Life is good again - after a restore of my notebook to day 1 (using Acronis) everything works well again - Basecamp worked with the OSM installation which previously failed. I think the OS in my notebook for some reason was acting up.
