Is anyone having problems with Mapinstall? i can't use mapinstall anymore for my GPSMAP 62s and Nuvi - when i try to install OSM maps over to the units an error comes up. My previous Mapinstall/Basecamp usage was perfect but for some reason now mapinstall just crashes - i'm using MAPinstall 4.0.3. latest basecamp and all the latest firmware for the units.
I think i managed to transfer the OSM map via Mapsource - but it loaded to the unit - not to the SD card. I sure liked to use Mapinstall because it made map transfers manageable and easy to use. It's weird cause i'm not sure what changed - i didn't upgrade mapinstall. There has been no new mapinstall version lately - right?
I'll try it on a different pc next.....but it doesn't make sense if that works because i was able to update the firmware and maps on the units (62s & nuvi). At first i thought it was just the 62s with the new 5.0 firmware - but i had the same problem with the nuvi too. Luckily i could still use mapsource.
I've tried over many days - even just 5 minutes ago - i'm still getting this same attached error dialog box with Mapinstall - i click on continue in Mapintall and it produces this error dialog. Since you don't seem to have any problems with the combination of Mapintall/Basecamp & OSM maps then i think maybe it's my notebook. I have a desktop pc and will load all the same software to the desktop and see if i can get it to work..i'll let u know in a few days time..my instinct tells me it's my notebook since no one else has the problem. It's just funny that it was working perfectly before the problem. Maybe my USB in my notebook is going bad? - if my desktop pc works then that proves that theory.
Anyway thank-god i can still rely on Mapsource to transfer the maps to the units - otherwise i'm in serious sh!t. I hope mapsource also don't go bad on me.
For using http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ Just download the "osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip" file. Then unzip that, and copy the image file to the Garmin device.
For the GPSMAP 62s, you have to put it in a folder named "Garmin" - either on the internal memory, or on the memory card. Depends on what model Nuvi, but it may need the img file in a folder named "Map".
No need to use MapInstall or MapSource.
Hi Craig, yes i know all that - but i want to apply a type file which i have modified - my modifed type file changes all the background to white - i don't need to have the special areas marked or colored - it gets confusing and really congested on the tiny 2.6 inch screen of the GPSMAP 62s - i'm using mapsettool to apply the type to the map that's installed into basecamp - mapsettool doesn't detect a standalone map.
For awhile there i thought Garmin had locked out OSM maps - the day that happens that'll be the day Garmin becomes Magellan - dead in the water. The OSM maps are super duper freakin accurate!!!!
