RV760LMT ignoring Basecamp routing

Hi folks.

This thing's driving me crazy. I've created a route complete with 13 waypoints in Basecamp; Basecamp routes correctly. Then I Send To the device and the device apparently doesn't see anything as a route, just a collection of points, and of course it ignores the waypoints and does what it wants. I presume I'm missing an important step or two.

I've been using DeLorme Topo w/GPS for years so I'm not a total newbie. Help!

Thanks!
  • U need to go to the tripplanner in your RV760, u see the route as a unplaned trip. Check if your waypoint are in the correct place on your route, than hit start.
  • Whoa. I have plans to purchase a RV760. I am using a 465t and have no problem planning routes. As above if I create a route using BC and upload it to the RV760 the route is considered a trip??

At Buy Garmin website on the Spec tab under Maps & Memory it says "Routes 15". So are you telling me the RV760 and the 760 DZL also uses trips. I think the RV760 is a modification of the DZL.

This may change my mind on buying a RV760... Any thoughts..

Well, thanks for the info. I learned something I had never seen before. My 456t does not work the same way.

One thing. I never plan a trip on my Garmin unless I am just running around town. Then I select the destination I want and press GO. If I want to stop somewhere before I just select my waypoint and it asks if I want it as a new destination or insert it as a via. But that is about all I do on the GPS unit.

My real main use is planning 150 - 300 mile trips and using BC to make the route I want. I have no problem there. I upload the waypoints and route to the GPS and import the route. Then when I start my route I select it and press GO. This is uploaded as a route. I do not want it to upload it as a route and have it convert it to a trip. Then recalculate it or what ever. If I am right a trip is different than a route.

Now if a trip is what you plan directly on the GPS and you upload a route from BC and import it or whatever and it works OK... But I don't want something I have to convert or change or modify when I upload a route. Is my terminology correct. What defines a Trip and what defines a route?

All of the new Nuvi's use "trips" instead of "routes". I suspect the RV model is the same. Routes are gone. And if I understand what you're saying, I don't think you can do what you want. Routes are always converted to trips on the device. :(

  • You can use Basecamp to make routes for use in the RV 760. You need to make sure the maps in Basecamp are the same as on the 760 and you are using the same profile for the RV and activity.
After you upload the route to the RV 760 internal storage, you touch Apps>Trip Planner>your route name. There isn't any data storage that requires moving a route into an active area.
  • I had a real problem thinking that now I have to learn what to do with TRIPS rather than Routes.

When you make a route in BaseCamp then upload it to the RV760 as LJLaursen said... Jut go into Apps, select Trip Planner then select the route (Trip or what ever), and then click on the destination. Then it calculates the Route/Trip... No big deal.. It does ask you for a destination. I don't know why maybe if make the trip on the GPS you will select two or more waypoints. Then when going into Trip you can select the destination then the GPS makes the route.

I don't let it make my main trips/routes. I make them in BaseCamp.
