Can't make a route

I'm trying to switch from Mapsource to Base Camp and can't do the most fundamental thing......create a route. I will enter my first waypoint using the pencil icon, and then move to the second waypoint and the route created by BC may go miles out of the way, or it chooses a parallel road for no reason I can understand. I have to try to force the route I want by making the waypoints closer and closer together, but that is very time consuming and still often results in BC heading the route off in wierd directions, sometimes even backtracking. I have watched the videos, read the tutorials, and still can't figure it out. The screen snip above shows an example. I used two points for the cities of Oroville and Tonasket and BC chose the side road instead of hwy 97, which would be both shorter and faster.

This may have to do with the profile you have selected. Check the options for your activity profile and see if there are any avoidance categories selected. Just as an example, a walking profile would not take you down a major high way (I know that you did not choose walking here... just an example).

Sorry you're having trouble, but hang in there it does get better.

Just tried your two cities and BC routes me straight down hwy 97 as you wanted it to.

I'm using Activity Profile "Motorcycling", here are the setting I have for it

    I'm using BC 4.2.2 and 2013.4 maps

I am using activity "motorcycling" also. Here is another example of the route BC chose from around Oroville to Ellensberg. (edit: I don't think that is actually where Ellensberg is, but doesn't matter). I can't imagine any reason to go that route.

My BC has 2010 maps and should be the latest version since I downloaded it again today. This brings up another problem I have with BC. I have to plug in my device in order to get the latest maps on BC, which I paid for and got the 2014 North America maps. Why does BC not get those maps downloaded to it? Right now they are only on my Zumo.

I get the same kind of result if I plug in my Zumo and use 2014 maps. I don't know how to find out what version of BC I have, but when it first loads, it says 2008 to 2013.

Click "Maps" it will show you installed maps and a check box next to the active map set.

I would suggest you update the maps on your computer to match your Zumo.

Use Gramin's Map Updater not Garmin's Express (Express has issues).

    PC:

    http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

    Mac:

    http://download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.dmg

Make sure you select the option to install updates on your computer and GPS.
