Caches not marked as found after downloading gpx file from geocaching.com

When you mark a cache as Found on the handheld, it updates a file on the handheld called geocache_visits.txt. Just copying a GPX file of found caches will not automatically update the text file on the handheld. And it does not matter if the GPX file is telling it to display the 'Found' icon. The handheld only responds to the entries in the geocache_visits.txt file. The only way to get the handheld to recognize that they have been found is to either mark them as found on the handheld or manually edit the text file to include the found caches.

Has anybody found a solution to this yet. Caches are shown as found on my etrex20 but unattempted on Basecamp. This is true whether I download for my device or download pocket queries directly. This has only started happening recently. Before caches would be shown as found in Basecamp - even those which I had found with my phone before I had owned a Garmin device. I am wondering if a software update has been responsible. Does anybody have any ideas?

Have you plugged your Etrex in and is it showing in Basecamp? If so found geocaches should be marked as found, provided you have them on your Etrex and are listed there as found. Certainly works that way with my Etrex 20.

Yes - Etrex is plugged in and is showing in Basecamp. I can re-import the caches from etrex and all show as unattempted on Basecamp even though they are shown as found on my etrex.

As posted above what is the key is what is in the geocache_visits.txt file, unless you've 'found' the geocaches on your Etrex 20 they won't show as found in Basecamp.

I have checked the geocache_visits.txt file and caches which are recorded as "Found it" in this file show up as "Unattempted" in base camp but "found" (ie open cache icon) on my etrex map.

No idea then I'm afraid, it's always worked for me.
