Basecamp will not avoid major highways

Hi
I have been struggling for some time now with a route from Brno i The Czech Republic to Rostock in Germany. I have checked for "Avoid major Highways" but still Basecamp insists on a route with more than 100 km on the German Autobahn. More major highways than those are hard to find. I have changed profiles, restarted Basecamp and even reinstalled Basecamp. I have tried to delete both the list and the waypoints and started over again, and again. I have checked for avoiding Interstates and State Highways too, but still Basecamp is stubborn and stays with the Autobahn. I have also tried to slide the route away from the Autobahn, so far without success. The route leaves the Autobahn to reach my new viapoint, and then takes me back to Autobahn.
For some reason, Basecamp lets me take the smaller roads on the southern part of the route, a little south of Berlin theres mostly Autobahn even though there are lots of other roads.

This is a new experience for me, earlier there has been no problems to avoid the Autobahn, or other highways in other countries. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the latest version? (4.2.2.0) Map: City Navigator Europe 2014.1

Any advice will be appreciated.

Joachim
  • You're different, normally folks complain that Basecamp or their GPS takes them off the major routes :)

Bear in mind it's an avoid, not never use. It will avoid them only IF another suitable route exists. Whether it will will depend on other settings, for example have you chosen fastest route?
  • I have found that some roads (or even just sections of road) are classified too low in the map set. Have you been able to zero in by using the "rubberband" or "pencil" tool? I've found that there are a few places that only a very granular manual tweaking of the route will work.

One of these places happens to be near my sisters house...

    Good luck.

Different? Perhaps different from professional users or car-drivers. But as a motorcyclist I'm as normal as can be :-)
The Autobahn with no speedlimits made fun the first two times, when I was younger than 25. Since then, they're boring.
The winding B-roads are much better when touring a motorcycle.
I did not think of the fastest/shortest option.
    I'll try that, thanks.

  • I find a similar situation with my US maps. I like to take my time when I travel so I normally use State Hwy's and avoid the Interstates. Also many if not all of the State Hwy's are smoother than the Interstates. Many of the Interstates beat the hell out of my RV and people are driving so fast and without respect for the other guy I try to avoid them.

I also find that when I plot a route I may have to use numerous positioning points and some times the route just goes awry.

    Totally agree
Always looking for the less traveled twisty back roads here in the USA also.

I was having a problem with routes that kept going back on the main highways and by removing all the avoids in the profile it cured my problem.
