Legend for base camp

where can I find a legend for the base camp maps?
I came across a road on a map in base camp and for a section of the road it was shown narrower and the lines went from solid to dashed. What does this indicate?

Thanks in advance
Rick
  • Yes, FALAGAR, maps have legends, why does BaseCamp not?

Perhaps, much like the overview map, we could have a floating legend that dynamically shows information only for data types currently displayed in the map view.

    or

Just have a sidebar window open up with a user scrollable categorized tree view of data types used in the currently displayed map.

I am having the same problem as Rick. The BaseCamp map of Mojave National Preserve Park shows one road as 2 parallel solid lines and another shows a road as 2 parallel dashed lines. They both have names as "road". I cannot tell if maybe one is paved and the other is not. A map legend should be one of the basic things and it should be very easy to see (if there is one).

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Added as a feature request.
  • Falagar, we understand that feature requests take some time and there are many on the list. In the interim, could someone simply add a page to the online help file that shows the legend? That would work fine I think since it needs only occasional reference.

Dashed line roads indicate not paved.
  • Dashed line roads indicate not paved.

    Except when they do not.

Many maps use custom TYP files, and this usually results in different symbols for the same items between maps.

Thus, a Map Legend is needed to show what symbols are being used for each item in the active map.

Not having a map legend is unbelievably amateurish. It makes Garmin BaseCamp unusable for me. The roads and streams are obvious, but for different trails I see solid blue lines (with arrows), solid brown lines, two types of dashed brown lines, orange lines, dashed orange lines, pink lines, two types of dashed green lines, and more. For the life of my I can't find a legend to these lines.
  • There can't be a 'Basecamp legend' as it depends on the map and the map maker, which map are you using?

    +1 SUSSAMB

BTW has anyone looked at the legend that is included in MapSource?
I think every line on the map has changed but the legend was never updated...

"Belangrijke Snelweg" is a main highway....IT'S IN BLUE
Nevertheless, It would be quite handy to have a legend even when it's only for the NT maps.

Incorrect. A legend is quite easy to produce, as each and every detail displayed on any loaded map is controlled by the TYP file associated with that map. BaseCamp need only show the TYP data for the loaded map in a 'Map Legend'.
