2 improvements to the BaseCamp

Hi everybody!

1. Discontinued MapSource had a great function called "Map". It allowed us to select one or more maps from one large map (atlas). For example, to select some regions of a country. And then to send the selected maps to the GPS-device. It would be great to have the same function in modern program BaseCamp! This function is sorely missed in the program!

2. It would be great to add button that slides in and out the sidebar with library. You often want to increase the area of the map on the screen and then explore the map without library and sidebar. It is uncomfortable to change manually the size of the sidebar to hide it. And sidebar, that comes out, looks ugly :( (see screenshot below).

It is possible to see a similar sidebar that can be slided in and out in different programs, for example, in popular browser Opera, various GIS (ArcMap, MapInfo Professional etc.).

1. You can. Select your GPS in Basecamp, right click and select Install Maps. That launches MapInstall which will do what you want.

2. I'm not sure why you would want this. Without the sidebar you lose a lot of the functionality of Basecamp.

I would like that also. Mapsource has it. Why not Basecamp? There are times when I like to devote the whole screen to just the map and I agree with DM102 that it's awkward and ugly to "scrunch" the sidebar.

I also would like to hide the library at times. When I am reviewing a route or want to view a larger area when zoomed in it would be nice to hide the library panel. I use Streets & Trips a lot also to find things, because I have used in our business for many years. It allows you to remove panels for routing, and such to give you a larger map area.

Yes.. that I have wanted to do also..

You can already drag the library to its minimum to show most of the screen, does the extra cm down the left side (that's all the screen it takes when minimised) really make that difference? You can also hit F11 to remove the toolbars if that helps.

That though is a rather niche area :)

It works great in Mapsource, and is handy to give you more screen area to manipulate tracks, especially when you're zoomed in. The hide/show button keeps you from "resizing" every time you want to do this.

I use it all the time in Mapsource. But, then again, I gave up on the prospect that Basecramp will ever be as useful to me as Mapsource. Garmin just wants to build it the way that suits them. Assimilate or die...
