Incorrect import into basecamp library

Hi everyone!

Basecamp has problem with import into library!

1. Select root directory 'My collection' in the library
2. Then press File ---> New ---> List Folder
3. Select new created list folder
4. Press File ---> Import into 'New Folder'
5. Select any file, for example, *.gpx, *.gdb etc. and import it
6. This selected file is imported into root directory 'My Collection', but not into desired 'New Folder'. The 'New Folder' is empty!!!

So you have to press "Move To..." in the context menu of new imported file and move it into correct 'New Folder'. :(

Please, fix this bug!
  • How about drag and drop in the new folder......
u don't need the "move to"
  • Already known about, due to be fixed in 4.3 I think.
  • Sometimes I feel like the total number of 'software engineers' Garmin has writing BaseCamp software could carpool together on a pogo-stick.

These forums are chock full of incredibly simple and obvious software flaws where common and basic functions do not operate as expected or advertised. One could reasonably doubt they actually test any of the code before they release it. And honestly, BaseCamp is not a complex program, but rather a very simple database manipulation tool that primarily interfaces with products Garmin has complete control over, removing most of the variables other software engineers are forced to deal with.

Seriously, step back and look at the big picture: Reading through these forums, you will consistently see many of the same bugs re-introduced with each new software release while basic functions remain broken or disabled.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate Garmins continued efforts with BaseCamp, but I think they would be well served to appropriate additional development resources, and in a hurry.
  • Workaround found!

    I FOUND A WORKAROUND!

Don't create a new List Folder for your new List!
Put the new List directly under "My Collection". And you are fine to import your gpx, images, ... with drag/drop or the menue dialog! :D

BTW: Needless to say that this also works for your current lists. As long as they are NOT in a list folder.

    Enjoy Gü
  • @DM102: I know it's a WORKAROUND!!! Thats why I named it that way. A workaround NEVER fixes an error!!!!!

But it is a VALID solution to put something in a list that is NOT IN A LIST FOLDER.
Better an import to a "unperfect" folder structure (all lists under the root) than no import at all.
  • It's true, I'm not arguing. And your workaround method is good. However, I would like to see all the features will work properly. This is the normal desire of any user. :)

But then Garmin's software engineers would be out of work!!!

Of course Garmin must fix this! Of course it is also my desire that they fix that!

IT IS A BUG! I never sayed this is a FEATURE!
I am not related to Garmin in any way!!! Why are you blaming me for providing a workarourd?

My workaround will not stop Garmin from investigating this bug!!!

    Guys, whats wrong with you?
  • And as I already posted, this bug is known about and due to be fixed :)
