BaseCamp still can't plot fastest route.

V 4.2.2. I previously ran into problems with BC not providing the fastest route. This time I confirmed that with no alternate waypoints Basecamp can't even be consistent with only start & finish points.
Traveling from OH to VA
N41.09968 W81.30503 to
N37.64877 W76.58514
BaseCamp gives a route of 441 miles and a time of 9Hr 43 min

But if I travel from VA to OH
N37.64877 W76.58514 to
N41.09968 W81.30503
BaseCamp gives a route of 427 mi and a time of 8Hr 29 min.
No change was made to route options between plotting the two routes.

Just how am I supposed to trust Garmin programs to provide correct routing? This is NOT the first time this type of conflicting route information has been provided.

If I enter the coordinates in my Nuvi 2455 which route can I expect to be given as "Fastest" ? Either of these or perhaps a third route?

I would be ashamed to put out a product with such random and sloppy programming that it can't calculate if 9Hr 43 min is shorter or longer than 8Hr 29 min.:mad:

Just as an experiment and using 4.2.2 I created an A to B and then a B to A route in France. One route was 380 miles in 9 hrs 17 minutes, the other 378 in 9 hrs 16 minutes. Clearly Basecamp can calculate routes with little differences, so I suspect there is either something strange about the route chosen by the OP or there is an error in the map data.

Stuart I guess is using 2014.10, wonder which the OP is using?

No guessing necessary. I said I used 2014.10 :p

FYI the speed limit must be much less in France (~41mph) or BC overestimates traveling time.

MapSource estimated a 501 mile trip in 8.25hrs an average of about 60mph (non-stop). In my experience that's about right.

So you did :)

Speed limit is less in France for the route I chose ... didn't allow toll roads that tend to be fastest. You'd never average anything close to 60 mph.

Well if you allow toll roads (many French Interstates are toll roads) then distance goes to 411 but time down to 6 hrs 46 mins ... so average of about 60 mph :)

Well that's better but if you have to pay...

In the US Interstates aren't toll roads. Toll roads are typically in cities only and are separate from the Interstate(s). I prefer to live here :)

One reason why I don't live in France ... in the UK we generally don't have toll roads either :p

I'm confused (that's normal), I used the provided coordinates, created a route using "Driving" then inverted the route. The routes came out pretty close.

JBOURG you are confused because the OP did not provide enough information. Merely providing the start, endpoints and preference (time or distance) is not enough. One also needs to know any road type avoidances (not provided) and feature type avoidances (not provided). A faster time calculation requires knowledge of the values in the average speed table (not provided).

There may be a problem with BaseCamp’s algorithm, there may be a problem with the data in the map set. Knowing the version of BaseCamp (provided) and the Map (not provided in this post, but I believe it was mentioned in another post) can help identify where a problem exists.

I ran the calculation with the default settings in BaseCamp 4.2.2 and in MapSource 6.16.3 and obtained the same routes; Forward vs. Inverted and BaseCamp vs. MapSource.

This might indicate a problem with OP’s Map data, but not necessarily. Based on the OP’s travel times it is likely that the speed table is not the default and/or the avoidances are not the default. So my route (and yours) is likely different from the OP’s.

Without knowing the missing information or the exact routes the OP obtained, it is difficult to determine if or where a problem exists.
