really need to know how to Connect a point from a separate route to another separate route point cause when i select 2 or 3 routes and join the selected routes it creates all these straight lines that confuse me with the original route i just want to make it all one route - :confused:
I cannot reproduce it. When I join two routes (with the same activity profile), after saving the route, it is being recalculated and just as expected.
You should explain in more detail what you do!

This happens when your selected routes are not all flowing in more or less the same direction and if the start of #2 route is not close to the end of #1 route. If, for example, you had created #1 route from a trailhead to the top of the pass, and then created #2 route from a trailhead on the other side of the range to the top of the same pass, BC will connect the end of #1 with the beginning of #2 with a long straight line.
Try this experiment: Create a route from town A to town B and end it at one end of the main street. Now create another route from the other end of the main street to a third town. When joined, you should see a straight line down main street of town #2. No problem.
Now try this on a trail, but start route #2 a mile away from the end of #1 and over a hill or river. You should also see a straight line, but it will not be useable because it goes through the hill or over the river. Now if your map is routable, you may get some pretty strange stuff. It may be necessary to create a short connector route to get the two routes to join properly.
If your joining points are not the end points of the routes you will have to truncate the routes first. BC will not join routes except at the end of A and the beginning of B, etc..
I often clean up tracks and routes by point by point editing....a handy tip is to select a point in the track or route properties list beyond or before which you wish to delete a whole bunch of points; it will get an orange circle on the map. Once the correct point is identified, hold down the shift key and select a range of points. Now the track or route between these points will turn orange. Keep holding down the shift key and going up or down the list until you have selected the correct number of points to delete, make sure the cursor is inside those highlighted points in the list, right click and delete. If you want to go from a specific point all the way to the beginning or end of a track or route, click that point then Ctrl-home or Ctrl-end...all the points between will be highlighted. Proceed as above.
This is very handy if you have an out and return track and you really only want to save one direction but forgot to turn off tracking at the far point.
Thank you for the info I will try this - I have starting to understand this more and more by just toying around with Basecamp and realized I created to many points and it is like they connected all strange but am cleaning it up and seems to be less chaotic
