I'm new to BaseCamp but have completed the tutorials and also looked through this forum for answers to my questions. An outstanding issue I'm havinging is the level of detail showing up on the BaseCamp map. I'm trying to create a route using back roads in NH for motorcycling, but he roads I know are there, won't show up in Basecamp. These aren't 1-lane gravel roads, but paved routes such as 103A and 103B in the Sunapee area of NH. How can I see more detail, such as class 3-6 roads that should be on the map (and I see on MapQuest or Google Maps)so I can create a route?

Do you have the Map Detail set to Highest?

View -> Toolbars -> Detail Level = Highest

Did you install an additional map? The base map that comes with BaseCamp only contains major roads and cities.

Yes, It's set to the highest detail.

No, I didn't install any addl. maps. Didn't know I needed to.

Well you don't say what model GPS you have--if any. BC can view pre-loaded and downloaded Garmin maps on a device if it is connected to your PC/Mac.

I'm using a NUVI 500, but it's not connected to my laptop. I was planning on creating the route, then transferring to the GPS. So, do I need to purchase maps of my area in order to see the roads and towns?
I have to say, it's not very intuitive.

Connect your nuvi 500 to your PC and BC should be able to display the (detailed) maps on it. You can then create routes etc and transfer those to your unit.

Just today I noticed that I did not have the road detail normally found while using BaseCamp. Maybe during my latest update a value was changed in my Activity Profile. Driving profile showed detail roads. Motorcycling profile did not.

Insure that Activity Profile is shown in your menu. Click Edit Activity Profiles. Choose your Acitivity Profile. Under General / Map Display Features, click Select and Expand All. Check the Transportation boxes and insure that all the boxes are checked. My Road box was not checked in the Motorcycle Activity Profile. I don't remember changing it...for months and months.

I now have road detail in BaseCamp. For me it was not an lock / unlock situation.

Basecamp isn't a good application. It is a very bad product and doesn't do what we want ! Very hard to understand.
