route times for off road hikes ?

Hello,

I' m trying to plan a hike in a mountain area with Basecamp, using the "direct" option on the map to avoid strange behavior of the automated routing . Is there any way to have an calculated time of the hike, just as with the "hiking" option ? With the topography and the distance, it should be possible. Thank you for any suggestion.
  • No. Only Automated routes (anything but the Direct activity profile) will give leg/trip times. This is because automated routes must follow routable features and these features are classified differently (e.g. highway or residential roads). Speed values are assigned to the different road types which allow for the calculation of time. These values can be set by the user (except for the Hiking/Walking profiles).

The Hiking/Walking profiles use a fixed value for speed (ca. 3 mph, 4.8 km/hr).. Automated routes have never taken terrain into account. For example walking a nice trail at sea level would be treated the same as a narrow rocky trail with a 10% grade at 10,000 ft.
