Basecamp 4.2 duplicates folder structure in database location

I'm attempting to copy the default database (which has all my map data in it) to another folder on my computer so that I can then switch to the new database copy and stop accessing "default". I use Win7's copy/paste to copy the database folder to the new location. The first time that BC opens the copy it duplicates the folder structure. Example: the path I've created the copy in might be: jim/documents/garmindata/database/4.2. When I open BC and point at that folder as my database location, BC creates another structure, so that my database is now located at: jim/documents/garmindata/database/4.2/database/4.2. Most files are duplicated between the two structures. An added pain is that when I open the database in the new location, all timings from my tracks are missing.

I've looked through the forums and done some searches but can't find any reference to this problem. Has anyone any ideas?

You have to point it to jim/documents/garmindata, not to jim/documents/garmindata/database/4.2.
  • Exactly. I had the same problem initially until I realised what was happening.

Thanks for your quick reply. It is still not working even though I pointed it at: jim/documents/garmindata. What I get is an empty collection. I want to make sure that I'm clear about the steps I've taken. First I copy the "database" folder from the default location to jim/documents/garmindata. So, after the copy completes a garmindata/database folder exists. I checked and made sure that the copy worked.

UPDATE: I just noticed that the files AllData.gdb and Folderdata.gfi were empty but the backup files in the folder contained data. I renamed the backup files, replacing the files mentioned, opened up BC and all is working properly.

So, problem solved, but I recommend that you update your help documentation regarding how to use this feature. I couldn't find any info there.

    Cheers,

    Jim
