Camera Icons-What are they supposed to do? Routes-do they playback for anyone else?

I never used Base Camp. It was always a pain, but I thought maybe the new version would be better. Before I completely give up on this, I have a few questions to which, hopefully, someone will know the answer.

What are the camera icons supposed to do? I look on my map and it has these camera icons on it. These icons do not show in Mapsource. It looks like there is supposed to be a picture I can see, but clicking on the icon does nothing. Any idea?

Then I create a route. There is the choice to playback the route. But it doesn't do anything but put a big arrow on the start of the route. If I drag the slider on the playback bar, the big arrow moves. Doesn't seem too useful. Does this playback by itself for others?

I currently have version 4.1.1, because the install for 4.2.2 throws an error. (I'll figure that out in a bit) Windows 7, 64 bit AMD Turion dualcore 2.3GHz

I am trying to figure out if I should spend more time on this, or just quit while I'm behind. I'm currently not seeing any usefulness, and a lot of weird glitches, but maybe I need to figure out how to get 4.2.2 to install.

TIA
  • 4.2.2 installed without a glitch, and I'm not clear what 'camera icons' you're referring to, are you able to post a screenshot?

No idea about Playback, sorry, as I've never used it.

So from views/toolbars you can check/uncheck playback then at the top left there is a icon that looks like the standard pause icon click this then change the speed to x100, the button for this is just to the right. The arrow will now move through your route / track.
  • Hmm. Never tried Playback before. If you also check "Playback Info", it shows the speed it uses for calculation at any point of a route. Interesting, when I try that, it does not use the speeds I entered in the "Customise speeds" section of the activity profile used. Even on uninterrupted interstate, it slows down passing certain towns even though the speed limit doesn't change. But then it does not slow down on interstate through larger towns where the speed limit is slightly lower. I think the calculation logic and speed specifics are essentially unfathomable...
