Send waypoints to multiple devices

I purchased the DVD for City navigator and loaded it to my Rino 530.
Now i have several dgb files of waypoints, one for each event I attend. Prior to an event, I would load one to Mapsource then download to the 530, each of two 120s, a nuvi, and an old XL12. Now Mapsource crabs about "subsequent file version" so I am able to load the dgb to Basecamp but it won't recognize any device but the 530. Am I screwed or can I either get mapsource to work with my old files or get Basecamp to download waypoints to multiple devices. I am not screwing with any maps, just loading and saving waypoints. In the meantime, I'll see if my CompeGPS Air can do this.

The latest (and last) version of MapSource is v6.16.3.

Now if you have old GDB (not dgb) files they should open fine in MapSource (6.16.3). However you cannot open a BaseCamp GDB (Alldata.gdb) file in MapSource.

I'm not sure, from your post, what you're trying to open in what.
  • I’m not familiar with the Rhino device. But I am guessing that it can/does behave as a mass storage device. If so, you should be able to access it thru the file command in MapSource. It will be an external drive and the data probably be in a folder (or subfolder) called GPX (example E:Garmin\GPX). Verify the file format before saving to the Rhino – I suspect it uses .gpx, not .gdb.

Most of the new units use the .gpx format. Old units had limited memory and may well have used the binary .gdb format to save space. If the above works on your Rhino, you should also be able just drag and drop files to and from your device/computer.

There is no way that I am aware of to get older devices to work with BaseCamp.

GDB files have only been used by MapSource on PC's. No device has ever supported them.

BaseCamp doesn't support anything with a serial (RS-232) interface such as the XL12.

That may well be, but Garmin was making devices before the .gpx format existed. The memory limitations on those older devices make it reasonable that Garmin employed a binary file structure (instead of text based one). Sadly, I have no hacking capabilities to check how older units save files.

Sure. I own of of those units (76CSx) although it can save tracks (to SD card) in GPX format.

Garmin has a proprietary (binary) protocol that works over serial (and USB) connections. That's how data was sent/received with those older models.
