Restoring the prompt for initial route waypoints

I do routine quite a bit from BaseCamp. Many times I use the convenient pop-up that allows you to enter the start and end waypoints, and sometimes I just draw a route. Recently I accidentally clicked on the "Don't Show this Again" in the pop-up. When they say "Don't Show This Again" they mean it!!! There is no way that I can get that convenient dialog pop-up to come back. There is no option or anything. Now I'm stuck without it on the main computer that I use. Seems there should be a way to restore it in case one makes a mistake or changes their mind later on.

PLEASE make an option in BaseCamp to restore that dialog for routing start and end points.

    I apologize for the trouble. We have this on our list of things to do.

    In the mean-time, there are a couple ways to get it back:

    1. The sledge-hammer

    Delete the directory C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\GARMIN_Corp (On Windows XP the path is a little different). This will reset all settings for all installed Garmin applications.

    2. The surgeon's tool

    Find the correct folder for your current BaseCamp settings in the directory mentioned above. The easiest way to find that is to start BaseCamp, re-order some columns so the file gets rewritten and then sort the folders by Date modified. Open the user.config file in C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\GARMIN_Corp\BaseCamp.exe_Url_{some_letters_and_numbers}\4.2.1.0 with notepad.

    Search for this:

    <setting name="ShowRouteCreationDialog" serializeAs="String">
    <value>False</value>
    </setting>

    Replace False with True.

    Excellent. I'm using Windows XP and I found it as:

    C:\Documents and Settings\myID\Local Settings\Application Data\GARMIN_Corp\BaseCamp.exe_Url_longstringofstuff\4.2.1.0\user.config
    Being a software architect myself, I used gvim instead of notepad. :)

    That did the trick. Now I'll remember not to click that "Don't show this window again" until it can be restored easier.
    Thanks!

    Glad you got it to work! No objections to your choice of text editor, whatever works.
