Does this actually work in 4.2.1 as mentioned in the list? BC will not find anything in the OSM map or the OS LR 1:50 map. Or is it map dependent? Tapping various postcodes into the search and getting nothing.
It won't work on those maps as they don't support postcodes. It's a map issue, not a Basecamp one. It finds postcodes on the City Navigator maps with no issues.

I thought this might be the case. Thing is on my device I can see the detailed road data ( NAVTEQ I think city navigator ) with OS LR map and I am sure this supports a postcode search. Plugging the device in to BC I cannot see the detailed road data, should I be able to see this in BC? If so how can I get BC to recognise this?
Does the map show in the drop down map list? Check u've selected it and that map detail is set to highest. While the OS map has underlying road data I don't believe it allows postcode search. Have you tried it on your GPS?

Well that's odd as I'm running Garmin City Navigator V7 and Basecamp still can't locate Post codes even though both Mapsource and my Montana can.
Am I alone in thinking that Mapsouce is a far superior product than Basecamp? Garmin seem to tried (and failed!) to make one piece of software that does everything. It's slow, it's cumbersome and it's definitely noe "user freindly" As a user of Garmin GPS systems going right back to the GPS V I'm certainly not a newby to the technology but as far as I'm concerned BaseCamp sucks!
Basecamp takes some learning, but having done so I no longer use Mapsource. Mapsource has certain issues and limitations with newer units, but if it does what you want no need to change to Basecamp.
How are you trying to search for a postcode in Basecamp? If you have an appropriate map selected you should be able to just enter the postcode in the Search box (top right) and hit Enter. If nothing is found ensure you have the address icon selected in the right hand pane that pops up (looks like an envelope).

I have now checked this and can do postcode search from GPS unit, it still requires house number and street name so maybe it is not a stand alone postcode search.
If postcode search is working on your GPS all it should need is the number, so something's not quite right. As I said before, I don't believe the maps you're using support postcode search.
