As SUSSAMB points out, not all units recognize “shaping points”. If a unit has points labeled as “don’t alert” in BaseCamp on units turn by turn direction page (Active Route on your unit), then it probably doesn’t support “shaping points”.

The points listed in the turn by turn page are the ones used to calculate “ETA Next” and “Dist. Next”. I am unaware of any methods to keep points in a route, but remove them from the turn by turn direction page for units that do not support “shaping points”.

I do not know if what you are trying will work. If it does, I’m sure lots of people will want detailed instructions on how to do it.

I will give you a couple of alternatives. You could break the track into multiple tracks based on the points you want to use as next points and navigate each track segment. The downside is that you will have to stop and start each segment and won’t be able to see data for the final destination. Another alternative is to load the detailed track and a Direct Route using only the “Next Points” you are interested in. Here, you would use the track line on the map to verify that you are following the right path and navigate the Direct Route. The direct route would give you as the crow flies distances from current position to the “Next Point” and also a point to point distance to your final destination. In other words, the distances on the trip computer will only be an estimate of the track distance, but it might be good enough for your purposes.
