I like the fact that hovering over the map shows, not only the nearby POIs, but also the field for entering a search keyword.
HOWEVER, I probably will be using that feature much less often than I won't be using that feature. Which means that the search field only gets in the way of precious real estate in the map window.
In general: Please learn a (negative) lesson from Microsoft. When they introduce things that Bill thinks everyone is going to love, they insist that everyone love it; and they don't provide an option to go back to the other (usually more reasonable) way of doing things.
There should be an option that says to show that search field or not to show it. That way folks who don't really need it can turn it off.
Don't get me wrong. It may be a good feature and I tried it once. But most of the time I won't be using it, so it is just a raspberry seed in the tooth. You may consider this way of doing things when introducing other UI improvements. They may look good and make a lot of sense to you, but they may be just unwanted fluff to others. We all do things differently.
Thanks.
