Hi,
I have been using MapSource for years but I'm a newbie to BaseCamp. My problem in short: I have a lot of waypoints in (known to) BaseCamp. I want to pick one of them and transfer it to the GPS device. Instead of that, all waypoints go through the wire, whatever I try.
I have Garmin GPSmap 60CSx connected via USB (grmnusb.sys 2.3.1.0) and BaseCamp 4.2.1. Help of BaseCamp does not work (a website pops up and says "file not found" or something). I've seen an introductory video and it suggests that what I want should work... but it does not.
Here is what I do, step-by-step:
- Connect the device and launch BaseCamp. BaseCamp / GPSmap inner storage shows 275 waypoints and 9 tracks.
- Copy those items to My Collection, export them as a GPX file. Now they are no more needed in the device and I want to remove them.
- I do the deleting directly on the device (clear all tracks, delete all waypoints...) Anyway, I cannot do that via BaseCamp, its menus don't allow me to erase anything in the device "Inner storage".
- After deleting the items, BaseCamp does not seem to know. And I don't see any possibility to "reload" or "refresh" its copy of the device's inner storage (the only method that makes it know is to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable). So I still see all waypoints there, although they are no more in the device.
- Select a list in My Collection. This particular list contains a single waypoint and nothing else.
- Right-click on the waypoint, select "send to...", then select the inner storage of the device.
- All waypoints have been transfered. When I push Find / Waypoints on the device, I see a long list again.
As I was describing the problem now, I found out that the problem with not-refreshing BaseCamp's mirror of the device's inner storage is crucial. When I forced reload by dis- and re-connecting the device to the PC, the problem was gone. Only the selected waypoint was transferred, although there are others in My Collection. So my problem may be reformulated as synchronization between the two storages:
1. Is reconnecting the cable really the only way of letting BaseCamp know that something changed inside the device?
2. Is there a way of performing the change (waypoint removal) through BaseCamp so that it knows about the change?
Thanks,
Dan
