Does BaseCamp work with RV 760EMT

I just ordered the new Garmin RV 760EMT. I want to make sure it is compatible with BaseCamp and there would be no problem uploading routes and waypoints..

I don't know how many have already have the RV 760 but I would be interested in how BC works with it.

Thank you

  • Hi,

I just checked this for u with a Dêzl 760 witch is basicly the same as the RV 760. I was able to upload routes and waypoints, and finding them back on the device.

When you get your RV 760 I have a test I would like you to try to see how good the RV restrictions are provided for. Would you plot a trip on the RV 760 from Philadelphia,PA to Washington, DC? It should route you down I-95. What I want to know is does it route you through Baltimore or does it send you on the bypass loop? If it sends your through Baltimore (I-95 goes this way through a tunnel under the harbor) it is a problem because RVs are NOT allowed in tunnel because they are carrying propane. RVs must take the bypass loop.

I tried BaseCamp in the RV Mode and it sent me through the tunnel.

I replied on a different thread already. But try using the trucking profile and entering hazardous materials.

And I replied in the other thread, that will not work as it will route me away from many places I can go with my RV. Another example, if I used a trucking profile with hazmats it would tell me I could not go through the tunnels on the PA turnpike, but I am allowed with the RV. Tunnel restrictions are unique.
  • I will try to see how the 760 routes Philadelphia,PA to Washington, DC and post it here. I am also looking for places that have low clearances, use truck routes rather than go downtown or residential streets.

As I travel fulltime I find many problems with routhing even when I am not pulling a 38ft fifthwheel. I also find the speed limits are wrong. Some below the actual speed limit and some above.

BTW does the RV 760 have the warning if you are going faster than the speed limit it is displaying... If so can you turn it off.

    Thanks for your response.

I have two Garmins that show the speed limit (the specs for the RV 760 says it does) and both of them have a warning if you are going over the speed limit. You can not turn it off in either of them, so I strongly suspect that you can not in the RV 760. However, the warning is just that the "box" your speed is in turns a light red. It is not annoying and I usually have to look a second time to be sure it is on. I would not worry about it.

Thanks for the comment.. If it is true that the GPS is warning us that we are speeding, then to me it would be a strong requirement for Garmin to keep the speed limits accurate. If not then remove the "Big Brother" warning. I normally know what the speed limit is and I don't need a GPS telling me I am speeding when a lot of the limits they have are incorrect. At least provide a place to disable it.

I also have a problem with the GPS announcing street name or a different highway number than the one I am following. If I am traveling to a town on a specific highway, passng through the town on the same highway don't tell me I need to turn on a street name or a highway that is also part of the route I am using but not the one I am following. Turn left on Jones street. There is no street sign or you can't find it. The Highways are always marked. My 465t bit the dust and I had to print out maps from Streets & Trips (don't like to use my laptop as a GPS... To large) and followed the route with no problem. But I do miss my GPS..

  • I just got my new RV760 this weekend. I updated the map to the newest 2014.20. Using BC 4.2.3.

One thing I found out... you will have to use the micro connector (a short one comes with the GPS). I bought a longer one so I don't jerk it onto the floor when using my Laptop.

I made a route and it uploaded from my Windows 7 pc to the RV760. I did not have to import it like I did on my 465t. A lot of the icons are different from the 465t. Favorites is now called Saved. To make a route or launch an uploaded route (Trip) you select Apps and then Trip Planner. It shows the route you uploaded and the option for a New Trip. Select the route you uploaded and it gives you lots of information. Select Go and it asks you to select Next Destination. (I don't get this..). Your options are the start and the destination points. I just have two. I made a secont route in BC and uploaded it. It had 2 position points and they show up as green dots. Haven't had a chance to see if they are announced or not.

I like something in the RV760 that was not in the 465t. That is to make shortcuts. Once I do a find on say Walmart, it will make that a shortcut and it will do a search at your location and you don't have to type it in every time. I made one for reststops, McDonald's (we like their Sweet Tea where ever we go), Camps and RV Parks. This is real cool. I like alot. And you can move them around to where you use them most.

So far I think I am going to like this GPS.

    More later...
