I want to look into changing the location of BaseCamp's database, but I do not have (or cannot find) a "Utilities" menu selection. What can I do to get the "Utilities" menu available? In an attempt to re-establish default settings, I've deleted BaseCamp from my computer and reinstalled 4.2.1 from Garmin's website. I still don't seem to have a "Utilities" menu selection, either on the toolbar at the top or anywhere within the menus that I can open.

I'm running WinXP 32-bit, by the way.

    Thanks.

Thanks. That apparently worked but I'm still confused because the help file says there should be a "Utilities" menu. Are we just behind the times with the help system?

The database is now where I told it to be. Where was it stored before?

I sure hope that the folks at Garmin get the help docs up to date..... :-)

Dan Townsley made this post over on the ADVRider forum. The post was about routing preferences, and it includes a couple of screenshots of the options/preferences dialogue window for both the Win BC and Mac BC products. You can see a number subtle differences between the user interface panels in the Windows BC and Mac BC products. Examples include Edit->Options (Win BC) versus Preferences (Win Mac), an Activity Profile tab with two tabs for General and Routing (Win BC) versus the General and Routing "tabs" being separate (Mac BC), to the subtle differences in the way Road Type Avoidances and Feature Type Avoidances are presented (sequences). I know there are more significant functional and workflow differences between the two products. There is no reason many of these user interface differences cannot be eliminated and the Win BC and Mac BC products made to look and work more similarly.

Hopefully the Garmin BaseCamp development team will start working on making the Win BC and Mac BC products more closely align. Providing consistency between the two products would make it easier to document/explain, for end users, how to use the programs. I would think some of these user interface items should be relatively easy to fix (i.e, not require significant coding changes). Other changes that require modifications to the workflow of the products will obviously not be as simple. I know the Garmin BaseCamp development team have a lot on their plate, but bringing consistency to the two product workflows and UI is something I would like to see before bringing us new features.

That said, I tip my hat to the Garmin BaseCamp development team, for all their hard work.

    Good morning all,
I finally decided it was time to update my BaseCamp for Win7 with SP1. I was running an extremely old version, V2.0.3, and when I had checked for updates online, it said there were none available. Suffice to say, I downloaded and installed V4.2.1 and it doesn't run. There is a whole series of error that I allowed to send to Garmin. I tried uninstalling and installing a couple of times with the same result. Any ideas from everyone?

    Thanks,
    Ed

I've got 4.2.1 installed, but how do you use the airport and flight number lookup function? can't find any instructions or clue. Thanks!
