I have just installed Basecamp and wanted to have a 'play' with the software before I purchase a ZUMO 660.
Do you have to have a device attached for the mapping etc to work, as I can create a route but it wont calculate it.
Without routing data Basecamp cannot calculate anything. So you either need to install the same detail maps you will have on your Zumo or you must connect your Zumo so Basecamp can use its maps.

You don't need to have the same maps on both the zumo and BaseCamp. You could install free OSM maps which are routable until you have your zumo 660. I might find that you will want to have your City Navigator maps installed in BaseCamp as well as the zumo 660 but there isn't a requirement for that.
