Where is basecamp for Android

if resourcing the team is a problem send me the specs and interface requirements and I and other people can write there own interface to my Oregon.

Very true, Android is far more popular than iOS now. Many developers actually release android versions of their software before working on iOS versions because they know the android market is so much larger.

I currently have an iPhone 4s, 4, and 3G. I will have a new Samsung Galaxy S4 in the coming weeks. Oh, and a Galaxy Tab 3 tablet. No iPads for me. I'm finished with apple and iOS.

I do hope Garmin supports android soon :)

Unfortunately Garmin doesn't even make a nav app for Android (when you ask them about it they say they have one and refer you to the Navigon app which gets horrid reviews). I can't imagine they would do a version of Basecamp for Android if they can't be bothered to do a nav app.

So they should have some experience .. right..
but if they don't intend to perhaps they should open up the API ..

Navigon is owned by Garmin, so yes, Garmin does make a navigation app for Android. Navigon's apps are actually pretty slick, IMHO. And I don't think the reviews are that bad. It's the usual 'either 1 star or 5 star'-syndrome.

On a different note, most modern Garmin devices have a pretty open API: it's called GPX. You can interact with the device be reading, writing or modifying GPX files. GPX files have a schema, all Garmin extensions have a public schema, so it should be pretty simple to program against that if you feel so inclined.

However, I am pretty sure that Garmin won't be ignoring Android.

I was actually talking about Wireless connectivity to send new GPX files to Oregon 6xx devices from Android.
eg copy GPX file to unit via ANT / Bluetooth.

Good point about the stars, Falagar. But stars are one of two things that don't interest me.

1. I'm not interested in the stars; I read the reviews to see what people think about the features and functions. Those reviews make it clear that Navigon is the second thing that doesn't interest me.

2. Specifically, I'm not the least bit interested in a non-Garmin app, no matter how slick it might be. And Navigon is very clearly not a Garmin app.

I want a genuine Garmin app that has the same family user interface as Mobile XT, Mobile PC, and the Nuvi/Zumo/etc family. It has to use Garmin maps. It has to have the same GPX interface for transferring waypoints, routes and tracks in and out.

In other words I want the familiarity, functionality and flexibility that I get from having all my navigation hardware and software from Garmin. (iQue 3600A, Mobile XT, Mobile PC, 3 Nuvis, eTrex Legend HCx, GPS 10x)

If all I wanted was a functional Android nav app that loads the maps onto the device, I already have ALK CoPilot. It works just fine. But it's not a Garmin app, just as Navigon isn't. I would drop it in a heartbeat if Garmin would simply update the Android app they built for the Garminfone and make it available.. Or port StreetPilot over from iOS.
