Having major issues with BaseCamp & TOPO U.S. 24K Southwest

I just got my Montana last week, and I'm having serious issues with BaseCamp, and more specifically, loading Topo U.S. 24K Southwest.

The first day I got everything, I connected the Montana, downloaded BaseCamp, and installed CNNA. After that, I installed the Topo, and from what I recall ( I've installed, uninstalled, etc so may times I forgot if it ever installed 100%) it showed up on BaseCamp.

The same day or next, I began getting an error ever time I try to load BaseCamp. It says there is a error in the Windows Registry.

Now, I can sucessfully install BaseCamp or the Topo 24K by themselves and they'll install fine. It's as soon as I attempt to install the other is where I have the problems.

Another weird thing I noticed today is when I use Mapinstall, it shows that the Topo 24K is there(taking up ~3.22GB of mem):

And then if I click on advanced/partial install, I get this:

I called Garmin today,dealt with the software dept. I even had the guy remote access my PC. He says that there is issues with my registry, and maybe so.

I think that there is something wrong with the Topo DVD got. It seems like everything else works properly. Basecamp, my old copy of Topo U.S. 2008, etc. As soon and the new Topo 24K Southwest is introduced, things got crazy.

I'm at my witts end. I want to learn how to use this GPS the software and I'm just not able to.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

    FYI my copy of Topo 24K Southwest (v2) doesn't use the registry as it is a .gmap map product. My copy of Topo US 2008 is registry based however.

    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\TOPO U.S. 24K Southwest v2.gmap

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\MapSource\Families\TOPO US 2008]
    "ID"=hex:c8,00
    "IDX"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Maps\\TOPOUS2008\\Topo100.mdx"
    "MDR"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Maps\\TOPOUS2008\\Topo100_MDR.img"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\MapSource\Families\TOPO US 2008\1]
    "Bmap"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Maps\\TOPOUS2008\\Topo100BM_v400.img"
    "Loc"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Maps\\TOPOUS2008\\"
    "Tdb"="C:\\ProgramData\\Garmin\\Maps\\TOPOUS2008\\Topo100.tdb"

    Now I don't use BC often or MapInstall at all and both map products work fine in BC and MapSource.

    You could try running GMTK and see if that helps - see the "Repair" function: http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

    Thanks for the input.

    I did notice that when I completely uninstall Basecamp, and then clean the registry (CCleaner), and then re download Basecamp and install, it seems to work, but just the one time after install.

    If I close the program, and attempt to re start it, I get the same error once again.

    Sounds like your PC has issues perhaps from a malware infection.

    I guess it's possible. Wouldn't something show up on MSE, CCleaner or Malawarebytes?

    How else can I check, or I'm I just looking at formatting and clean install of the OS?

    The guys in the software dept. over at Garmin got me squared away. Took a bunch of work in my registry, but I'm good to go. Kuddos to them - the third call was a charm.

    They did load an old version of Basecamp. I'm hesitant to upgrade it though.:confused:
