How to handle skipping points on the road

Hello all,

Let me describe my issue.

I'm creating a custom route via basecamp, I'm using the pencil to create "shaping points" along my route. Lets say for discussion that my route have 30 shaping points from the beginning to the end. I'm transfering this route to my GPS (Zumo 665, in that case).

On the road, I'm using my GPS to follow my route. The issue is : "if I had to use do a detour that will bypass a shaping point (on the custom route), and come back to the original route lets say 3 km later" the GPS want me to get back to the missing shaping point of my original route. This behavior is obviously a non-sense since I want to continue the route, not going back just to pass on top of a shaping point.

I hope you can help me. I was trying to found a way to erase those shaping points once I created the route, but with no luck, because I don't want to change the route, and certainly not want basecamp to re-calculate a new route...

Thanks in advance,

Robindbois
  • This isn't a Basecamp issue. Read your Zumo 665 manual (see page 15) to find out how to make it skip a point on a route. As for it being a non-sense, the Zumo is simply doing what it's been programmed to do ... take you to the waypoint :)

Cancel the route on the GPS and then restart it on your new position.

To change the route etc, you must first park and then make the necessary adjustments. To do it while riding, is not only dangerous, but you are likely to delete the wrong point!

However, if it is not possible to park up and make the changes, the other alternative is to ride /drive until you rejoin the route. When you eventually rejoin the route it will stop trying to get you back to a previous waypoint, and then direct you for the next one. Of course until you rejoin the route it will try to direct you in strange ways. Just zoom out and it will give you an idea on where to go to get back to the route.

Thanks for all your good tips guys.....

INGRIDSHERLOCK...This was my idea,...but I was surprise when I rejoin the route, the GPS try to make me exit and come back to the previous point.....it s seem he will behaved that way unless I pass on top of the point.

I guess the only option is like .... MXCHNEY suggested is to restart the road...

Try taking your unit off auto recalculate. When asked to recalculate say NO, once you rejoin the route it will pickup and continue the route with out trying to go back to the missed waypoint.
