Map: How do i get plan view rather than oblique view

On the map screen the view is an oblique view of all my tracks and waypoints and I cant find how to switch it to plan view? Any helps?
The help pages suggest you should only be able to alter the angle of the oblique view in the 3D map view. I can do this but only up to 85 degrees.
In 2D view I would expect the map to have been a plan view but it is very definately oblique view. This gives a very distorted view of my data.
How can i get a plan view of all my recorded data

Are you talking about on your GPS or in Basecamp (since you've posted in the Basecamp forum)?

If on your GPS it sounds like you have 3D view selected, you need to select 2D view.

If in Basecamp are you sure you've selected 2D view? I've never seen an oblique view excpet in 3D

I think you are talking about the projection angle. See this thread about setting the angle using the Windows Registry: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?9459-Custom-map-display-distorted

However note post #7. If you have Mapsource installed, select the same map and press CTL-ALT-A to set the angle then quit. Basecamp should use the same angle you set the next time you start it.

You can also set the projection angle with JaVaWa GMTK.

Whether you use MapSource or GMTK, there is a restriction though: you can't set a projection angle higher than 85 degrees...
I might be necessary to put the desired angle manually in the registry, but it is possible that BaseCamp doesn't accept a higher value.

This is great! The distortion of the maps of Iceland and the other Nordic countries has frustrated me for a long time. Thanks Javawa, and thanks also for the tip on Ctrl-Alt-A in Mapsource. All my maps are fixed now.

I think you will need to load some kind of map, because the data stored in the registry is related to specific maps. You could load one of the free openstreetmaps or something from another site that offers free maps like gpsfiledepot.com. Alternately you could turn one of your track files (or a file containing some waypoints) into a map using JaVaWa's IMGfromGPX program: http://www.javawa.nl/imgfromgpx_en.html

I have mapsource but we do not use any maps.

Not sure how you do that since MapSource won't even open without at least one map product.

One way to get a map is to copy the one that comes with BaseCamp (if you have it).

Copy the

Global Application Basemap v2.gmap

folder in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\BaseCamp\Maps

to

C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps

6.16.3 works perfectly without a map... I was going to advise MapSource 6.13.7, because that version didn't have the problems with map distortion.. However, that one does need a map.
