Falagar -- There has in the past been considerable discussion on this forum about the desireability of having a visual "snap to" indication when using the insert tool to add shaping points to a route, especially as regards snapping to an intersection. Some both here and at the Zumo forum have even said that they would not switch from MapSource to BaseCamp until this was working similar to they way MS does.
Can you give us some idea where this request is in the priorities? (I admit to not trying 4.2 beta, but I didn't see this in the list of improvements.) The more I work with BC, the more I see that there is already a "capture zone" around intersections, and it will place a shaping point at an intersection even if the insert tool point is not on the intersection, but is within this capture zone. So it seems the code to make the snap-to work is mostly there, it's only a matter of visually showing the snap-to location when dragging the insert pointer and being in the zone. Hopefully not a huge programming effort?
Also, I note that when hovering the select tool near intersections, a label will appear that states the street names. But when using the insert tool for route shaping, the label instead gives heading and distance data. In my opinion, that data is less useful when doing route shaping than the location label. Could the location be shown instead of the direction data, since the label-generation code already exists? Or give the user a setting to choose which to show?
Thanks for the progress made to date on BC, I find it very useable, but of course always wishing for that next good step.
