You can download the new Beta at http://developer.garmin.com/apps/BC/BaseCampBeta_4.2.0.4.exe or, if you already have an earlier 4.2 Beta installed, you can update from within BaseCamp. There have been quite a few changes, so it should be worth checking out:

Added various improvements and fixes for Trip Planner
Added support for changing the location of BaseCamp's database
Added ability to create waypoints from Yelp find results. Note this only works if you are using a map with address search capability
Fixed an issue where roads from the base map were displaying along with roads from the detailed map
Fixed an issue where BaseCamp was not displaying properly localized map labels
Fixed an issue with inverting mixed-mode routes
Fixed an issue with certain file names for Adventures and Garmin Cloud
Fixed various find issues
Removed Utilities menu, moved Options to Edit menu, created main menu entries for Adventures and BirdsEye
Removed maps drop-down box from default toolbar, also removed sub-menu for maps, maps are now directly accessible from the Maps menu

As usual, we are very interested in your feedback, please report any errors you might encounter. Thanks!

@DAVEAHRENDT: This happens when you insert a waypoint (or routepoint for that matter) using the "insert" option from the taskbar (so not through the route properties).

Something else I notices: when rightclicking the searchbar in the lower left side of the screen (where you can search in your waypoints and routes), i get some strange options like:

    Unicode besturingsteken invoegen

which translates into "Insert Unicode strings" (translated from dutch)

The dropbox option works great btw!

    Cheers,
    Erwin

I am playing with the Trip planner tool. I try to build a Mountain Bike trip around the Mont Blanc.
-I have to use openmap the Garmin maps do not allow cross country routing.
-The next complaint would be related to acitivity profile there are no option to setup average speeds for trails, tracks, unpaved roads etc, this make the time estimated by trip planner useless.
-Another point, if trip legs shows elevation graphs it does not provide total climbing estimate. That is a valuable information for Hikers and Cyclists.
-Send to device causes a BC crash, but sending to a folder works fine.

    Hello
I use the 4.2.0.4 basecamp to garmin astro 320, and I have kept in birdseye maps.
The maps birdseye I can not see them in basestation mode, nor saved waypoints in the Garmin Astro, you might find some solution. It would be very important to see waypoints basestation mode for us.
    thanks!

Are the BirdsEye maps unlocked for that device? And present in MyCollection? Then they should show up in 4.2.0.4.

Is there any way to disable the message box that displays words like "internet not detected" every single time I do a Find? Just a "don't display this again" checkbox would be enough, but options to not bother attempting searching over the internet & wasting space in the Find Results list would be even better.

You can disable adventure, geocache search etc. Just click the icons on top of the "Top Results" button that you are not interested in.

I'll check into making these messages less annoying.

I just installed 4.2.0.4 beta. The previous one was 4.1.2. One problem, BaseCamp throws an error when reading the kmz files on my Montana 600. It indicates an error has occurred when reading the kmz files. Going back to 4.1.2 and there is no problem. I do like the ability to place the database wherever I want.

Would you mind sharing a kmz file that BaseCamp has trouble with? Or is this true for all Custom Maps?

    Hi,

When you tryto insert a waypoint (typically before the last way point in your route), BC crashes.
Total time when you open the properties is now OK.
    Cheers,
    Luc

Thanks for reporting. We'll fix that.

Interesting. Using 4.2.0.4 I can open a route properties window, select the last waypoint, click the green plus sign, select a random waypoint from the list and click Insert Waypoint. Nothing bad happens and the new waypoint is placed above the last waypoint. No crash on Win7/64.

Still bummed over the truncated list of search results. Oh well, maybe 4.3.

In 4.2.1 you will be able to expand the search results to get more than 30.

SEnd to device causes a BC crash, but sending to a folder works fine.

What are you sending to the device? Which device is this? What method for sending to the device are you using?
  • Thanks, FALAGAR.

BTW, I know that it has been already reported that the menu bar doesn't remember its position but the Show/Hide Data Filter switch is also forgotten when you quit and relaunch BC.

This may be something you can't do anything about but here goes... I still use a Zune (don't laugh) MP3 player and the Zune app. If the Zune is plugged in to a USB port when I launch BC the app
thinks the Zune is a storage device and latches on to it. When I launch the Zune app it complains that a Garmin program has the device and won't continue. In BC I can Eject the Zune device and get a message that the device has been released by BC. The Zune app (quit & relaunched) still complains that a Garmin program has the device. It would appear that BC still has the Zune. I need to quit BC to get it to release.
Not the end of the world but it would be nice if BC would really release the device.

    Show on Map...

Not sure if it's been reported but the "Show on Map" and "Show Selected on Map" function's are grayed out on the Menubar and in right-click options. Also Ctl-D does not work at the Folder or List level.

    Cheers,
