basecamp not exporting map to garmin 2545 correctly

Hi chaps,
I have a garmin 2545 and I am trying to plan a long trip from london to the south of italy. Now, I have selected the desired address directly on the device but the satnav fails to load the map all the time, so I decided to give basecamp a try. I found the desired rout using viewpoints (2 of them) and everytime I try to export the map to the device it never works. In basecamp when the device is connected I can see that the route is there (although its icon isn't a flag as the rest of the routes but a kind of diagram), anyway when I select Edit --> send to it seems to transfer it to the device (I can see it in the internal storage) but when I switch the device on, I can't locate it under the favourites. Any idea?
thanks
  • I'm assuming you're trying to send the route/trip, you can't send the 'map' :)

See the procedure here from Garmin FAQs

To access a transferred route in a zumo 350, dezl series, LIVE series, or nuvi 2400, 2405, 2505, 3400, 3500, or 3700 series device:

    1.Touch Apps
◦Touch Tools on the dezl 560 series
    2.Touch Trip Planner
3.Allow time for the device to automatically import the trip/route

These Trip Planner devices will take several minutes to automatically import trips into the Trip Planner. The import will automatically begin, but no message will appear on the device indicating that the import is happening. Once the import is complete, all transferred routes will be displayed under a category called Unscheduled Trips in the Trip Planner. Until the trips show up in Trip Planner, please do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer.

thanks, yes I meant importing the route. I had no idea the imported route was under trip planner. I followed your instructions and found the route there, but I can only click on it and if I do it it brings up the starting and arriving point (with milage and other details ) as I expect and then I have 2 options: map and go! The map shows me the actual map with the route which is great, but when I click Go! it calculates the route up to 67% and then it says that the route can't be calculated. I suspect it's because it is a 1,396 miles trip, but I assumed that drawing it on basecamp would have helped the satnav to calculate the distance easily, obviously I was wrong. Does it mean that I have to break the trip up a bit? It's really odd, I would have thought any satnav would have been ok calculating any route no matter the distance.
Also, you mentioned something about allowing the device to import the route: when I switched it on (it wasn't connected to the laptop anymore of course) and navigated to the trip planner as suggested, the route was already there, so there is no need - it appears - to import it
    thanks
  • Well the device 'automatically imports it', see my post, so I guess it does it quite quickly. My 1490 won't cope with the full route either, so yes, you will need to break it down into more manageable 'chunks' :)
