Mixed Travel Activity Profile

I was just creating two simple routes using the 4.2 beta and playing around with departure times. I noticed that when looking at the route properties I see that the activity profile is "Mixed Travel".
Anyone know this is? I can't find this profile in the options dialog. If I change the profile to something else I can't get back to mixed travel. Something new for 4.2?
  • I *think* this allows you to have a mix of activity profiles in one route, but I haven't really played with this beta, see here from Falagars post:

Yes, the new feature coming in v4.2 (and in the beta) is the ability to mix Activity types within a single route. This was requested by many user communities. In the Motorcycle world we often want a route to has some segments with mapped roads and some segments with unmapped roads. So, we can mix Direct and Motorcycle Activities in the same route. Very useful.

The process is still a bit awkward on both Win-BC and Mac-BC but it is sort of working for the most part.

Agree, a most useful feature. Did you try to actually load a mixed route onto a device (Zumo or Montana) and ride it? If so, how did it work out?

I have been using Mixed-routes in my off-road riding for many years. First with the GPSMAP276/376 then with the zumo660 and now with the Montana 650. Both of these units will NOT recalculate a transferred route if it is sent to the Garmin internal storage (not the µSD Card). The units navigate the routes just fine but you do need to set the unit preferences to Recalculation=Off. Although, I have forgotten many times and left my Recalc setting to Prompted or Auto. When the mixed-route is recalculated it is of no use any more but no worries just stop navigation and restart the route from your current location.
  • Thanks Dan. That is encouraging. I have both Z660 and Montana. Will try it out.
