Adventures Photos Missing

Wanted to send some Adventures to my GPSr this morning, and discovered my complete list of adventures has lost all photos. Instead of being displayed in the photo tab under filters, each adventure has new waypoints O(camera symbol) for each photo, with a very small thumbnail, but the actual photos are no longer present!

I tried to re-download some adventures, but the problem persisted.

I had to delete each adventure, and re-download fresh to get photos again.

WIN 8 16GB Ram BC 4.1.2.0

EDIT: Yep, BaseCramp has totally screwed up my entire adventure database. More than 100 adventures, all have photos missing, and each must be deleted and re-downloaded from the server, one at a time.

Very frustrating.

Edit 2: Oh fantastic! Most of my Birdseye imagery is gone as well! BRAVO Garmin!

I apologize for all the trouble.

When you say your BirdsEye imagery is gone, do you mean on your local machine or when you download the adventure? Because BirdsEye imagery does not get uploaded. It says so in the publishing dialog.

Can you point me to one of your adventures that is broken in that way? So I can download it myself and see what's going on? We might be able to fix this without your having to re-upload everything.

Edit: Or are you saying it's only broken on your local machine? If so, do you recall when this happened? In which version of BC did it work, and when did it stop working?

Sorry for the miscommunication: Nothing to do with Adventures, just a bunch of my saved BirdsEye imagery is missing from the database, and I got warnings that BaseCamp had recovered some BirdsEye imagery. Now I have many BirdsEye files named 'BirdsEye Imagery 1', 'BirdsEye Imagery 2', 'BirdsEye Imagery 16', etc....

I already uploaded an updated version with some of the geocaches added back, but not all of the originals. Not sure how they were removed.

Current version is 4120, had it since it was released, WIN 8 64bit 16GB Ram Brand new computer (three months old). I did a complete backup from a slightly earlier version of BC (January 2013) and had a 16GB file as a result. Used that file to re-import everything into BaseCamp on my new machine just a couple months ago. The photos may have been broken then, and I just didn't realize it until now, but they certainly were not broken before the transfer.

When photos are imported into BC, are they not kept in the BC database? I am clueless at the moment how all my photos were lost, unless they are not transferred as part of the complete backup/restore function.

As for BirdsEye imagery, I have not even begun to look at what is missing where to repair it, as Garmin has my Montana for repair at the moment, and BC want me to connect it before I can do anything meaningful with BirdsEye.

Sorry for the lack of detailed info, BC has been working so well for so long, and now my DB has obviously suffered a massive corruption of some sort.

Thank you for your response, FALAGAR.
  • Can I also please report that each Adventure Icon shows up on all my GPS units as shades of Green, Yellow, Orange, or Red depending on difficulty level, but they ALL show up as green in BaseCamp. Please make them show up in difficulty color in BaseCamp as they do on the GPSr units. Thank You.

From what it sounds like the trouble began after you moved to your new computer and restored a backup from a different computer. I'll run some tests and see if I can reproduce the issue. Thanks for giving me some pointers as to what might have happened.

The images you have in BaseCamp should be backed up and restored properly. But something seems to be amiss.

I created a case for different icons depending on difficulty.

    Thank You.

Obviously, I can not email you a 16GB backup file, but if you need me to do some test with it, or want specific information, I may be able to help with that. Is there any way I can determine if the photos are actually in the backup file? Maybe I can find another machine and try to do a restore again and see if I have similar results, or I can look for specific details at your request :)

I am pretty sure the photos are in the backup file. We just zip up the whole BaseCamp AppData folder when doing a backup. You could just rename the .Backup file to .Backup.zip and see for yourself.

I assume the trouble comes when the paths to the photos change. In our data, photo waypoints have a link to a photo file. If (like after a backup/restore to a different machine) the paths to that photo change, there is a potential cause of error. I think we accounted for that case, but something clearly went wrong.

If you can reproduce the issue with a small database then that would be of great help.
