Trip Logs not imported into BC

Hi all,

I am finding that while most Trip Logs are being shown in BC under the GPS's "Internal Storage" as Tracks, a few simply aren't, so I can't import them. I can't figure out what makes these missing Trip Logs different to the others, they're nothing special, but as I've not used BC or the GPS all that much maybe I'm missing something? The device is a 3590. Any ideas?

Steve
  • Do you mean trip logs or trips? BC isn't at the moment capable of importing 'trips' from a nuvi, although routes sent from BC to a nuvi that uses 'trips' are converted into 'trips'.

Your trip logs are created by your nuvi and show where you've been. AFAIK they should all show up in BC as tracks
  • Thanks. Using the 3590 a few times since my OP I've found that the journeys (avoiding the word "trip") I've made are actually showing up in BC. What I have done is specified a destination, either from a favourite or searching and navigating to a search result. I think this is a "Trip" because there is a waypoint there at the end.

So I think the journeys that are not showing up in BC are the times when I have the 3590 on in my car and just drive around, with no specific destination set. The 3590 does keep a record of these journeys with no waypoint, visible on the map. Is this then a "Trip Log"?
  • Yes, that's the 'trip log' ... and on my 1490 they too show in BC when I connect my nuvi to my PC.
  • I think setting a destination is the key here. Yesterday I went for a drive and set a destination way out nowhere that I would never arrive to. I let the 3590 reroute a few times. Then I simply cancelled the destination, and just let the 3590 log freely for a while. Then I set a destination that I really arrived at. All 3 were visible in BC.

So if you are driving freely and just want to log where you've been, maybe the trick is to set a destination and then cancel it (because the driving instructions would send you mad). Perhaps then will it be visible in BC. Must play a little more...

Regarding the meaning of "Trip Logs", in the 3590 there is a map layers menu, where you can select what elements are visible in the map. There is a "Trip Logs" item, which will toggle on/off ALL trips/journeys made, whether custom waypoint/destination used or not, even though those without a custom waypoint/destination are not visible in BC. Maybe this is a bug in BC because I can't see why you would not want to import ALL logs from the unit.
  • I never import any logs :)

However I do know they show up in BC whether or not I've set a destination. AFAIK every nuvi constantly records a trip log, and there is no way to turn it off

Indeed on some units (the 30/40/50 series, maybe others) you can't even clear the trip log unless you do a master reset.

This thread may help me figure out something that's just come up on a couple of recent business trips, most recently on Saturday. I have no issues with uploading my trip logs from the Nuvi (2455 in this case) to BC, so long as they were recorded during drives, with or without a destination entered. Where the problem comes is with flying. I often fire up the GPS in flight to see how the trip is progressing and sometimes leave it on for awhile to determine what towns or cities I'm looking at below. I know those tracks are recorded in the device because I can see the recorded segments on the map. However, when I query the Nuvi when it's plugged into the computer, those flight segments don't show up. Three separate driving segments on the 27th did, but four flight segments the same day did not.

    Any ideas?
  • E020443, this is exactly what I see as well. Anything recorded while flying do show up as Trip Logs on the 3590 fine but are not available to be downloaded in BC. I don't know why BC and/or the 3590 would differentiate between these.
