Trip Planner

  • I finally broke down and installed the latest BaseCamp beta to start testing the Trip Planner, and boy, that did not get very far!

I was able to type a city/state for start point, but I was unable to enter my destination, either by text or clicking on the map. BaseCamp just sat there with a blank entry box looking stupid.

Even with my destination clearly visible on the map, and with my own waypoints in the area, I was unable to select any of them to make them the destination in the trip planner.

Took longer to install the beta than it took for me to discover the Trip Planner is a dead end.

    +1

I expected a planner, but it seems that I have to be the planner, I already am a planner and the tripplanner does not help me at all. There are programs and websites which do planning, just tell them direction and length and I get a route or roundtrip.

;) plenty of room for improvement ;)

And it does work with Dropbox. I have put my dabase in dropbox and can access everything from different computers.
    Great improvment.

I added a screen-shot for a feature that was added in the 4.2.0.4 Beta, choosing the location for BaseCamp's database.

This should work with Dropbox or Skydrive as well. You just don't want two people making changes at the same time. Changing the location will not copy your data from the old location to the new. You'll have to make a backup at the old location and restore in the new one.
  • It's not really the same thing, BaseCamp creates normal routes with Trip Planner. The idea is that eventually these trip planner (BaseCamp trip planner) trips will be able to be sent to the Nuvi as trips (with vias intact, no recalculation of the route).

For the time being, routes you create with trip planner will be sent to the Nuvi the same way you'd send a route now.

I haven't verified it, but supposedly the new generation of Nuvis already do not recalculate routes from BaseCamp. I'll try to get a hold of one of the 2013 models to test it out.

Have you been able to verify the 2013 line of nuvi do not recalculate routes from BaseCamp? If so, I will order a 3597 LMTHD today.

    Thanks

Embarrassingly, I still haven't gotten one of the newer models.

I vaguely remember someone else here on the forums verifying it. So if anyone can confirm, that would be fantastic.
  • I've just seen a post on another forum that confirms this.
