All Data for the Past Lost

I"m a new BaseCamp user (2 weeks) ) latest software versions in GPS and Basecamp. Everything was fine until today. I've lost all waypoints, tracks and routes from the Basecamp file system. All the data is gone except for today. I did not backup from the BaseCamp file menu so technical support says the data is lost forever. I usually backup my PC every 2 weeks and didn't know BaseCamp has its own backup process. Has anyone else lost all data for lists? Is it really gone? Every lists shows empty except those I've worked on today.

I've used MapSource for 10 years and know it inside and out. I have lots of PC and programming experience and did not delete the data myself.

In WinXP If you back up your C drive the data is at C:\Documents and Settings\(user name) \Application Data\GARMIN\BaseCamp\Database. You can restore it. Or you can restore the OLD MapSource data and them re-import into BC

Try making a backup and sharing it somewhere (SkyDrive, Dropbox, etc.) and send a link to me. The data might be recoverable. Did you run an earlier version of BaseCamp before you used the current one? For example, BaseCamp keeps a copy of your 4.1 data when you upgrade to 4.2. You could then "Restore from previous version" to get the 4.1 data back.

It does sound very strange that data would have just disappeared.

This just happened to me. I noticed there was an update to Basecamp which wouldn't work. With a heavy heart, I un-installed Basecamp, downloaded the latest version, installed it, and was amazed to see all my waypoints, tracks, routes were again visible !

BaseCamp databases etc aren't deleted when you uninstall it so that is perfectly normal.

(This is nearly "universally" true for any program. The standard is not to delete user data.)
