Drag start point here box - does not appear

I am using the latest Basecamp and want to be able to drag waypoints into the 'Drag start point here' box

However, when I select File/New Route, the box does not open up. Instead I get the insert waypoint tool.

Is there some way to turn on the 'Drag start point here' box? Same goes for it's counterpart, the end box.

I need it to be able to create a number of route sections of some 300 miles in a 2300 mile trip. I need therefore to be able to use the same waypoint more than once.
  • Once you click on 'do not show this window again' in the route 'box' there seems to be no way to bring it back, I think though that if you uninstall and re-install BC that does it. Maybe Falagar can add it to the list of things to be done :)

    It will be a true or false somewhere in the registry.I may try to find it when I get time. Today is too good to waste after the bad weather we have had recently :)

    I couldn't find anything in the registry which would help.

    I exported my data, uninstalled and reinstalled Basecamp.

    I was a little surprised to see that Basecamp 'remembered' all my data so the uninstall was not a full one. I expected the writers of Basecamp to have been more thorough rather than like some bad writers who always leave crap in the registry, disappointing.

    Tried to make a new route view File/Route but again just got the 'insert' tool. For my use that is a hassle. Uninstall and reinstall had no effect.

    I suppose I will have to use the search facility to start a new route when I need to make several routes.

    It might be a setting somewhere in your user data. This should be the folder %APPDATA%\Garmin\BaseCamp. So try deleting or renaming that folder (after backing it up if necessary).

    I am unable to find my user data. I checked %APPDATA%\Local\Garmin\Basecamp\ and %APPDATA%\Roaming\Garmin\Basecamp\

    I feel sure you are correct, if I can find the folder.

    The settings file is somewhere else.

    For me on Windows 7, it's in C:\Users\falagar\AppData\Local\GARMIN_Corp. There might be a bunch of sub-folders in there for each BC version. If you delete those you should have reset your settings and the box should appear again.

    Making the box appear without digging deep in the file system is on our to-do list.

    Thanks, that helps!
    Found the XML file user.config
    in directory (windows 8)
    C:\Users\xxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\GARMIN_Corp\BaseCamp.exe_Url_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx\4.1.2.0

    <setting name="ShowRouteCreationDialog" serializeAs="String">
    <value>True</value>
    </setting>

    Change False to True to turn it back on.... :)

    ps always make a backup before changing config files... ;)

    I had the same problem but resolved it by going to: Utilities, Options, General, and selecting "Reset Options". This resets all options to default so while I got the "Drag start point here box" after resetting, I also had to make some minor changes to the other settings like switching back Statute miles (default) to Metric which is what I previously set it to.
