Withdrawal of European map version 2013.40

Please please tell me that what I've just read on another forum (Zumo) isn't true. Here's part of the post in question:-

I contacted Garmin who have told me the new Europe 2013.40 maps updates have been withdrawn as the maps are faulty and cannot be trusted

Withdrawn you buying a new map then, but still allowing update downloads from myGarmin ... wish they'd post some info so we knew what was going on :mad:

Couldn't agree more. Sadly, it appears that far too many businesses today simply rely on a reputation that was built umpteen years ago and have no concept that it's the little things - the things that involve absolutely no extra cost to the business but mean a lot to the customer - that enhances their reputation rather than degrade it. If they'd stated what exactly the problem was, does it effect the entire map or just a certain section of it then the user could have determined whether or not she/he was effected and as a consequence whether they could have confidence in their GPS unit. With no statement whatsoever they have effectively made my unit totally unserviceable until they get the problem sorted out simply because I no longer have confidence in it. Very sad, Garmin, it would seem that those higher up should return to business school (if they ever attended of course) or take lessons from someone belonging to the old school.

Not sure about Europe but the US is a very litigious society where companies try to say nothing, at the advice of lawyers, to avoid lawsuits. I bet this is what's going on: say nothing, admit nothing...

Oh man...............I've just (last week) got my Edge 800 back from Garmin, free of charge, out of warranty reload completed after Garmin Express screwed it up. They've put 2013.40 on it :eek:

Me neither actually, it all seems fine for what I've been doing. In fact I just went on basecamp and created an automotive route between the ferry and a place in Provence using 2013.30 then 2013.40 and both mapsets chose different routes. 2013.40 chose what I know to be the better route, and takes into account some recently completed roads to the south of Paris. :)

You could always try GarminMapUpdater and see what you're offered, it may be back up now.

I have a Garmin Asus A50 phone and the 2013.40 Australia map update does not work, the map lacks smaller roads and my position is shown as not on the highlighted route. I've reinstalled 2013.30 and it works perfectly from one quick test.

Here in the UK there was a download available yesterday; 2013.40U which was described on the mapupdater as 'reinstall' as opposed to an update.
