Withdrawal of European map version 2013.40

Please please tell me that what I've just read on another forum (Zumo) isn't true. Here's part of the post in question:-

I contacted Garmin who have told me the new Europe 2013.40 maps updates have been withdrawn as the maps are faulty and cannot be trusted
  • The 2013.40 map has a lot of errors with one way streets, but AFAIK only in the Netherlands. It has nothing to do with the crashes in MapSource, and these errors aren't present in 2013.30.

    The reason why you can't revert to a previous version has something to do with how the update servers work (at least, that's what I heard).

    Not sure what the "'+P" means but in the past I've had "+P", "+P+JV(G)", "+P+JV(G&N)" and "-JV". I'm sure JV stands for Junction View data.

    In short unless the numbers change you'll just redownload and reinstall what you already have.

    P probably means Phonetics for speech recognition, and may be stands for ASR, but just guessing it.
    JV = Junction View
    LG = Lane Guidance
    LA= Lane Assistant
    HT = Historical Traffic
    3DB = 3D Builings

    Which is why I archive map versions (can go back 5). I archive everything: device IMG, PC's files, JCV and unlock code files. I can therefore restore a map version in as long a time as it takes to copy :)

    PS: I do the same with firmware files and some other stuff. Once bitten twice shy :D

    Well, you can't get any more official than this or receive a better summary of what's going on. This copied from an email I've just received from Garmin Customer Support:-

    Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

    The latest City Navigator Europe NT 2013.40 mapping update has been
    temporarily disabled due to a potential issue in the cartography.

    Our engineers are currently working on a solution to this and are acting
    upon this as highest priority.

    As such, no map updates for the 2013.40 version will be available until
    we are completely satisfied with the new map update.

    I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know.
    Alternatively you can search for a solution here: http://www.garmin.co.uk/support

    Kind regards,

    Will Taylor

    I have no way of knowing whether

    The latest City Navigator Europe NT 2013.40 mapping update has beentemporarily disabled due to a potential issue in the cartography.
    is factual or not. I'll have to leave that to others to verify.

    Frankly I tend to take what Garmin "support" says with a grain of salt. I'm not saying they're wrong but my experience (as with almost all tech support) is that they're "script readers". For me Tech support is done by technical people who actually know stuff.
  • I'm still able to download it, so not sure why some are saying it's been 'withdrawn' :confused:

    Perhaps they're simply no longer offering CN EU NT 2013.40 to those that haven't got it yet.

    Guess we'll all just have to wait'n'see.
  • Possible I guess. Nothing being posted elsewhere AFAIK. As you say, will have to wait and see.
  • Just for something to do I cloned a nuvi with an old GarminDevice.xml file, which is associated with an older map. No problem getting both MapUpdater and GE to download CN EU 2013.40 to it, so if it was 'withdrawn' it's back up now ... unless of course it's been withdrawn for some specific models, which I guess is possible :confused:

    But it is SUSSAMB - on the Zumo forum - see my first post. I'll spare you having to scroll back though LOL, here it is in full:-

    After my last post about new maps on basecamp, and my failure to get map updater to work in the UK I contacted Garmin who have told me the new Europe 2013.40 maps updates have been withdrawn as the maps are faulty and cannot be trusted, as I now have the 2013.40 maps installed on my 350LM Garmin have told me to reinstall the 2013.30 maps and have reset my account to update my device to the old 2013.30 maps,........(the rest of the post refers to other issues and not relevant to this discussion).
